Photography
Topside and underwater photography are also M.D.C. competitive events. The M.D.C., and it's clubs,
conduct weekend and year end photo competitions. There are categories for topside photo, underwater photos, slides and prints, underwater video as well as different camera formats.
Weekend participants are awarded certificates after the competitions. Records of placement and points are kept
throughout the season and formal awards in the form of engraved wall plaques, are presented at the Midwest Diving Council's Fall Convention and Banquet. Those individuals placing consistently high in the standings for the entire year may receive a Bryant Award. This is in the form of a divers statue cast in solid bronze on a walnut base, and is considered one of the Council's highest honors.
In addition, at the end of the dive season, we have the Underwater Film Festival held in conjunction with
the Fall Convention and Banquet. It is an excellent competition and exhibition, with awards in the above mentioned areas, as well as in freshwater and saltwater categories.
During our Don Staatz's training seminar dive weekend the more skilled divers and photographers offer seminars on the
different underwater photography techniques, use of specialized equipment and successful competiton methods. It is open to any certified diver who has not previously placed in a particular event. (usually those divers new to these types of competitions)
